Editorial design and illustration for a high-impact social research publication coordinated by consultant Norma Vázquez García and co-published by Calala Fondo de Mujeres, Mujeres con Voz, and Sortzen. The study details the complex migration experiences and structural violence faced by seven Central American feminist activists transitioning into the Basque Country.
I directed the visual identity, complete publication layout, and custom illustration systems. The core challenge was building a visual language that treated their testimonies with dignity, rigour and intimacy, without revictimising them or reducing their stories to their vulnerability.
The design uses illustration to humanize the individual portraits while the editorial structure gives the research the weight and legibility it deserves. Available in Basque here and in Spanish here.
Strategy & Identity
I conceptualized a custom vector illustration system to generate intimate, humanized portraits that give a defined face and identity to migration metrics. The editorial grid utilized generous white space and clean typography hierarchies to grant the field research the analytical weight, academic authority, and professional legibility it required for institutional presentation.
Engineered the layout workflow to seamlessly sustain a dual-language release. I managed typesetting and cross-platform identity consistency across two distinct, fully independent language editions: Spanish and Basque.

The Outcome & Policy Impact
The publication successfully humanized rigid asylum metrics through intimate, custom vector illustrations. The editorial architecture granted the field research the analytical weight and institutional authority required for presentation before international funding bodies (Calala Fondo de Mujeres, Mujeres con Voz, and Sortzen). The project proved that graphic design can systematically convey structural trauma while preserving total personal dignity.
The publication expanded far beyond standard advocacy distribution, functioning as a formalized technical asset for local governance in Spain. The study was adopted as a core methodological and empirical reference framework within the official diagnosis report "Pandemia, mujeres migradas y cuidados" (Pandemic, Migrant Women, and Care Work), published by the Immigration Observatory of the City Council of Getxo.
