Violencias Machistas

This project involved directing and designing a poster tackling gender-based violence during local summer festival weeks across three Basque Country municipalities. Developed in collaboration with the feminist consultancy Sortzen and supported by local institutional bodies like the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the core creative challenge was to construct a disruptive visual language capable of directly engaging and halting a younger target demographic aged 18 to 23 within high-density, celebratory festival environments, purposefully steering away from predictable institutional messaging.

The visual strategy relied on graphic abstraction and sharp typographic contrast to introduce a deliberate discomfort within the urban landscape, intentionally avoiding traditional didactic tones. The upper section features an abstract composition with psychedelic, undulating lines in purple-blue and white tones framing the phrase "SI NO HAY UN SÍ" (If there is no yes); this distorted, hypnotic pattern serves as a visual metaphor for how consent can sometimes be dangerously abstracted, misinterpreted, or blurred within chaotic celebration environments. The core slogan then concludes and deconstructs at the base of the layout in large, vibrant pink lettering stating "ES NO" (It is no), bluntly emphasizing that if consent is not explicit, structural, and visible, there is simply no consent.

Outcome

The graphic assets maintained a mandatory physical footprint across the festival landscape, deployed as official signage at municipal prevention, assistance, and support tents (puntos morados) set up inside the local fairgrounds. Print copies were distributed directly across festival bar areas (txosnas) and local storefront windows to secure maximum visibility among the youth, seamlessly adapting the psychedelic design from standard street-level posters into localized handouts and pocket guides mapping immediate response pathways for gender-based violence during the celebrations. The final design delivered a powerful visual statement that was also distributed organically across social media platforms by the festival attendees themselves, successfully extending the reach of the core political messaging far beyond its original scope without requiring a dedicated digital budget.
